God Restores Time

I love restoring old things. I like to go to antique shops, Goodwill or garage sales and purchasing things I know I can restore. I’ll strip the paint off a door, replace old flowers in a wreath or paint an old table and make it look like new.

So many things can be restored: Antiques, broken down cars, old houses, and relationships.

TIME is the one thing that can never be restored. Seconds, minutes, hours weeks, months, and years pass by us quickly never to return.

This thought can be frustrating if you have spent time living in rebellion and regret. It can be frustrating if you have been separated from your husband for months, or years. It could be heartbreaking if you received a diagnosis that set you back physically.

But take heart! There is hope because God can restore WHATEVER you lost, even your time.

We read a story in the book of Joel where God’s people suffered complete destruction of their entire harvest for FOUR YEARS. Their crops were attacked by swarms of locust (grasshoppers) who migrated together and ate their crops. But God promised to restore all that was lost.

“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…” Joel 2:25 (CEV) In other words, God will give them back everything they lost. God promises to do the same to us—His heirs.

How God Restores

God deepens our relationship with Him not only during the hard times when we drop to our knees but also during the harvest. We can experience something far greater than we ever imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)

God also multiplies what we have lost—in the natural and supernatural. If you have wasted time living in sin to the point your marriage is broken, He can not only restore it; He can give you years of incredible love and blessings. He can take what the locust has eaten away and do something powerful with your situation. You might even have a marriage ministry forming right now!

God can also restore time. Years ago I would get up in the morning and only focus on one thing—my job. I had so much work to do that I didn’t have time to spend with God. But a dear friend challenged me to start my day in the Word and watch God work. I was amazed at how He gave me back an hour I thought I had lost. My designs came together quicker, and my clients loved what I did in round one – meaning I completed the job instead of going back to the drawing board! It was incredible, and I’ve never gone back to my old ways.

What do you need to have restored? What crop has been eaten by the locust? What area do you want to see a harvest?

Jesus spoke about a harvest that could be 30-, 60-, or 100-fold. There’s a vast difference between these three harvests.

Let’s ask Him to not only restore what we lost but to bring us a bumper crop—a 100-fold harvest!

Lord, the locusts have eaten too much of my life. I know You called me as your disciple, and You desire to bear fruit in every area. I have lost too many weeks/months/years living with the locust, and many fruitless harvests have passed. Oh, Lord, restore all that was stolen from me and bless me with an abundant harvest. I am expecting You to work in my life, and believing in a complete restoration. In Jesus’ name, amen!
