When my husband pulls out a tool from the shed, I have a fairly good idea what’s he’s going to use it for. When he pulls out a shovel, I know he’s going to dig dirt. When he pulls out the weed wacker, he’s going to get rid of the nasty weeds that seem to grow overnight. I know exactly what he’s going to do because that’s what these tools are made for.
As humans, we are God’s tools. We are made for a reason. Although our seasons may change, as long as we have breath we have a purpose.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10
“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” Philippians 2:13
I like how Eugene Peterson put it in his translation of John 17:4:
I glorified you on earth
By completing down to the last detail
What you assigned me to do.
John 17:4 MSG
We also read in the Bible that David served God’s purpose and then he fell asleep. (Acts 13:36) God wants us to do things that serve and please him—it’s our purpose. It’s why we are still here on this earth. It’s why we still have breath.
If you find yourself in a new season, ask God what He has for you. Ask Him what your purpose is in this new season. I promise you that if you are reading this post–if you still have breaths–you have a purpose.
Take some time today to focus on your purpose. If you know your purpose in your current season, make a list of ways you can serve with it. If you don’t know what your purpose is, ask Him to reveal it to you. No task is too small and even if can’t leave your home or your bed, you can serve others by sending notes or calls of encouragement. There is always work to be done.
Would you join me in this prayer for purpose? ??
Father God, I thank you for the blessings you flow on my life. I stand in awe and praise You for blessing me. I am grateful for Your hand on my life and the lives of all my loved ones.
Thank you for the purpose you put on my life in this new season. Lord bring to my minds the things that You have called me to each and every day. Give me breath and the strength to do all you have assigned me to do down to the last detail. Show me the things that You made me for.
And all God’s people said, Amen ❤️
